Montenegrina – Ecology
Recently we started studies on a population of the rock dwelling door snail species Montenegrina subcristata with respect of population size, activity, range, growth and habitat preferences. This study is part of an OeAD-WTZ-co-operation project (Project No. ME 10/ 2016) of the University of Montenegro and the working group Alpine Land Snails of the NHM.
Under supervision of Prof. Vladimir Pesic and members of the AL-NHM team the students Andjea Bulatovic and Jovana Markovic established in April 2017 their study design and gathered the first data at a site near Virpazar, Montenegro. Besides our FWF project on phylogeography and speciation of the genus Montenegrina (FWF P 26581-B25) in the Western Balkans, this first ecological approach will help to better understand the biology, phylogeny and evolution of this group.
