In June the working group Alpine Land Snails (NHM Vienna) was glad to welcome Prof. Vladimir Pešić and Prof. Vesna Vukašinović-Pešić in Vienna to discuss the progress of our joint OeAD-WTZ (Project No. ME 10/ 2016) project on the rock dwelling door snail species Montenegrina subcristata. Among the main aims is an estimation of the population size and assessment of activity, range, growth and habitat preferences. This field study is the first ecological approach in Montenegrina and it will help to better understand the biology, phylogeny and evolution of M. subcristata and to draw general conclusions on rock-dewlling snails. During our meeting in June we discussed the progress of the project and explored options where to present the first results. We also talked about further possibilities for co-operations and joint programmes.
