On 11.-12 August 2015 members of the Alpine Land Snail Working Group (Katharina Jaksch, Michael Duda, Luise Kruckenhauser, Lisi Haring) together with Sabine Fischer (Wildnisgebiet Dürrenstein) performed a short field trip to the Wildnisgebiet Dürrenstein (Lower Austria). The excursion was a first survey in advance of a planned project dedicated to the land snail fauna of the Wildnisgebiet. In spite of extremely hot weather and rather dry conditions we could encounter numerous species at various places on the western slope of the Dürrenstein, at the end of Steinbach valley (Göstling/Ybbs) and in the Rothwald, which is the last primeval forest in middle Europe.

Pictures of this breathtaking area can be be found in our Gallery.
